Holy Guacamole Batman – It’s almost Thanksgiving – Where is my to-do list?!?

by AmyKozak on November 19, 2011

As I sit here this afternoon, with my fab finch&hawk stationery, making my to-do list, I realized blogging was on that list – so here I am – ta-da!

My main task at hand is show prep/stock for my absolute favorite holiday show – Bazaar Bizarre in Cleveland! This shindig is organized by the one and only Shannon Okey of knitgrrl and she puts on one hell of a show! You can find out more details and RSVP here.

Some of my favorite people will be there, including Lisa and her ‘stabbies‘ – I cannot wait to add to my own collection of ‘stabbies’ – she makes the cutest little critters!

First prep item – my show checklist of supplies, displays, signs, etc that I will need before and during the show – I always underestimate the time needed to tag/price/label my items once I have them made – so this list keeps me organized, and also allows me to do some of this ‘prep’ at the show during set-up.

I have always referred to this list from Sunshine Glass Works for packing purposes.

Now, before you freak out, you need to know that I take this list and make it my own…crossing off things I do not need, adding other things – ( i.e. I do jewelry, as well as fabric accessories and pouches so I have different display needs/set-up than someone who does pottery) – and you can do the same. This list gives you a starting point – so put your thinking cap on and get to work on your list!

Alas….one thing this list does not cover is your overnight bag – if you are traveling and staying over at your destination – add this to your list! The particular item of an overnight bag was never on my list until last December, when, I was so engrossed (i.e. caffeine stupor) in packing my car and not forgetting a single thing for the show…that I forgot my personal stuff sitting on my ironing board AT HOME (fast-forward to a quickie trip to CVS for some hip white granny-panties and other essentials)!

I had happily driven off with my handy dandy assistant that morning to Cleveland – only to discover upon arriving at the hotel 6 hours later, that I had the clothes I was wearing, and that was it! What a mess – but in the end, it all worked out (with a lesson learned and a new ‘must-have’ item added to my show list!)

I would love to hear your comments on your own lists (whether they be ‘to-do lists’, show prep tasks, display prep, anything goes!) – what are some of the must-have items on your list for shows – feel free to add any tips you have found useful as well! Hope to see you in the Cleve this December!
